Good To Know

I don’t keep track of the number of books I read each year, but my best guess is somewhere around 100, and of course, many of them are cat books. I review books here on The Conscious Cat on a regular basis .

I made a commitment to myself long ago that I would never post a negative book review. I feel that every author pours his or her heart and soul into a book, and just because I don’t like a book doesn’t necessarily mean it’s not a good book. As a result, if you see a book reviewed here on the site, it means that I liked it.

Here are my picks for this year’s five best books, in no particular order.

Pawmistry: Unlocking the Secrets of the Universe with Cats

pawmistry-megan-lynknott

This beautifully illustrated tongue-in-cheek guide to how your cat can predict the future and deliver messages from the universe had me smile throughout, and who doesn’t need more smiles these days?

Penny: A Graphic Memoir

A graphic novel featuring a tortie? Yes, please! Artist Karl Stevens captures the existential mewsings and day to day activities of his cat Penny in this delightful treasure of a book.

Nala’s World

When Dean Nicholson set off from Scotland to ride his bicycle around the world, he expected to learn more about our planet, maybe have some adventures. What he didn’t expect was that he would meet a cat who would change his life as much as he changed hers. In Nala’s World, Nicholson shares his incredible journey as the pair travel through Europe and Asia.

Immortal Cat

This book is completely outside of the genres I usually read, and I’m not even sure how to classify it. Amazon has it listed under Coming of Age Fiction, Humorous Dark Comedy, and Technothrillers. I’m glad I gave it a chance, because even though the sci-fi aspects of the story were not my favorite parts, I found myself surprised at just how much I loved this engaging story about the love between a man and his cat.

Immortal Cat is available from Amazon.

The Cat with Three Passports

I always enjoy stories of life-changing cats.  This heartwarming memoir book is about how Gershwin, a bedraggled silver tabby she rescues from the streets, not only changed the author’s travel plans, but changed her life in ways she never expected.
