CattyCorner: In Honor Of Cat Lady Day, Here Are 5 Reasons This Cat Loves His Mom

Good To Know

Greetings, my pawsome human minions.

Forrest the cat here, coming to you because a special holiday approaches.

April 19th is Cat Lady Day, and in honor of this illustrious day, I’ll admit it, I’m a mama’s boy and proud of it.

You know why?

Because my cat lady mom does everything she can to keep me happy, healthy, and full in the belly. So, to honor her, I say, how do I love thee, Mother, let me count the ways!

Top 5 Reasons I Love My Cat Lady:

#1 – My Cat Lady Speaks My Language

My mom may not be a native speaker of the feline tongue, and while that’s clear, she still tries hard to understand what I have to say. The level of respect she has for me is unmistakable, thanks to her willingness to understand my needs. And because she treats me with dignity, knowing I’m more than just an animal, I love her so much. And she says that love shows in my eyes. She’s right, she usually is, but don’t tell her I said that…

#2 – My Cat Lady Keeps Me in Fine Health

I may not care for visits to the vet, but my mom makes sure I go so I can maintain my feline excellence. You might recall I reported my sufferance with a urinary tract infection recently. But I didn’t have to languish long in pain because Mom was quick to recognize my malaise. For her due diligence regarding my well-being, I offer her much gratitude and love even if the vet isn’t my favorite place to go.

In mentioning health, I would be remiss in not mentioning the litter pan. A clean pan is key to my happiness which in turn affects my health. My mom knows this, adhering to daily scoops, sometimes more, and fresh litter to keep my sensitive nose from being offended by foul odors. Thank you, mom, for scooping my poops.

#3 – My Cat Lady Accepts My Natural Instincts

My mother accepts my hunted gifts with such grace. I have long since learned her promises of cooking the lizards into a stew are just to placate me. I know she disposes of my kills, but I appreciate her fuss. And I know humans aren’t particularly fans of dead offerings, but again, I really have to thank my mom for her praise. In fact, all the praise she lavishes upon me in kind words, hugs, and kisses illustrates another example of why I love and appreciate her. I know she is my biggest fan and, as a cat, I value knowing I stand in such an exalted place in her heart.

#4 – My Cat Lady Gives Me All the Attention I Crave

Cats have gained a reputation for aloofness through the centuries. And while we indeed have the ability to give two litter box piles less for most of what the rest of the world is doing, cats are still social creatures. But on our own terms. And my mother has accepted my terms with aplomb.

For the most part, she recognizes when I need snuggles and pets versus when I need ‘me’ time. Her chin-scratching abilities are unrivaled and she can wiggle a wand toy like nobody’s business. I’m her number one kitty and she’s more than gracious with giving me the attention felines need to be happy. Even if she sometimes gets extra with her Forrest fangirling. I forgive it, though, because I get it; I’m a cat, I’m amazing.

#5 – My Cat Lady Keeps Me Fed

Should I even bother to explain this one? The quickest way to a cat’s heart is through the stomach, and my mom knows this rule well. Without fail, my meals are served with exuberance and excellent service. I may whine about the kibble dish only being half full, but I really do appreciate never going hungry. So many cats do, and I’m thankful it’s no longer a worry. I love my mom for many reasons, chief among them, her dedication to keeping me fed.

And listen, cat ladies and gentlemen, just because we’re celebrating you doesn’t mean you can forget your duties, so…

Don’t forget to feed the cat.
