Three weeks ago, Susie H., a foster volunteer from Washington, D.C., brought home an orphaned kitten who needed round-the-clock bottle feedings. Her name is Petunia or Tuna for short.

“She was found alone and seemingly abandoned among a known colony of community cats in D.C.,” Susie told Love Meow. “While most of the cats in this colony have been TNR’d (trap-neuter-return), clearly not all.”

A Good Samaritan who has been caring for the cats, spotted the tiny newborn alone without a mom. She scooped her up and took her to get help.

The little tabby had a strong heart and a loud purr for a 2-day-old.

Within 24 hours in foster care, the kitten figured out how to latch and was eating like a champ. She would crank up the purr machine during her post-bottle cuddle sessions. “She is also a talker — she has a lot to say when she’s awake, and just keeps chattering away, looking for attention,” Susie said.

“This means that when I’m on work calls or writing in my home office, she’s usually on my lap so I can keep her company.”

In two weeks, the kitten doubled in size, and her eyes started to peel open. She began responding to her foster mom’s voice, and her personality was emerging. Tuna wanted to interact more and even tried to figure out how to play.

She can be a little needy, and always insists on supervising everything her human is doing.

“When she’s not sleeping, she wants to be cuddling. While I’d love nothing more than to dispense kitten belly scratches all day long, I still have work and things to do around the house,” Susie said.

“So we’ve gone marsupial – I’ve started carrying her in my sweater pocket while I putter around to keep her sated.”

Tuna has been Susie’s cutest little office assistant and made working from home so much better.

“She lays on her back, noms her paws and looks at me and all around, while I participate in virtual meetings, unbeknownst to all my colleagues,” Susie shared with Love Meow.

“I’ll also sometimes have to feed her or help her go to the bathroom during these meetings. I’ve gotten quite good at doing so without my colleagues knowing.”

From time to time, Tuna makes a cameo during online conferences and steals hearts with her adorable squeaky meows and irresistible personality.

“She has greeted folks virtually around the world,” Susie added.

“She likes to sit under the laptop, because it’s warm and cozy! She keeps me company while I grade, but she sleeps on the job a lot,” Susie shared with Love Meow.

The tabby girl likes to seek attention from everyone around her, including the resident cat, Ari.

“He’s always a great foster dad to the babies who stay with us, giving baths and comfort when they’re upset,” Susie told Love Meow.

One of Tuna’s office duties is to doze off in her foster mom’s lap while she grades papers.

The little kitten who was rescued from life on the streets, has blossomed to be an amazing office cat.

“She is strong and sweet and has been a fighter from the start!”
