Many people go to a local animal shelter or rescue organization. It can be a great place to find a cat. While it won’t be free like picking a cat up off the street or getting one at a farm, your money will go to a good cause.
The other place you can get a cat is at a breeder. Most of the time that’s going to be for your purebred cats like a Siamese cat or an Abyssinian cat, a Persian. You will pay more money for those cats, though, so be prepared.
All of these options have pluses and minuses. The most important commonality between them is you want to pick a cat that has a personality that seems like it’s going to go well in your home and mix well with any other animals that you have, as well as a cat that you know you can care for.
If you don’t have much time, getting a long haired cat, regardless of the breed, is not a good plan.
In addition you want to make sure to get them off to the vet as soon as you can to make sure that they’re healthy before you get them settled in a home.
