A SHIH TZU was only two days old when his mum rejected him and bit his leg so badly his owners had to rush him to the vet. The pup, named Pipsqueak, returned home after having his wound cleaned and stitched up – but his condition quickly deteriorated and it soon became clear that he needed 24/7 care in order to survive. Despite further attempts to save his leg and after two emergency operations, the vet was forced to amputate the newborn pup’s front leg. Pip received round-the-clock care as the stress from the surgeries left him vulnerable and weak. Nurses took it in turns to bottle-feed Pip every two hours to ensure him getting enough nutrients. To everyone’s surprise, the little fighter beat the odds and pulled through the worst. Bryony, who works at Sandhole Veterinary Centre where Pip was treated, decided to personally adopt Pip and give him a forever home. He’s now become part of the family, with Bryony’s husband and their three-year-old daughter Lauren. To give Pip the best quality of life, Bryony has set up a crowdfunding page to get Pip a prosthetic leg. Bryony said: “Pip was an unplanned addition to the household but he has wriggled his way into our hearts. I would love to help him have the best and longest life possible after such a bad start and am extremely grateful to anyone that wants to help his journey.”
