Archie was rescued when he was five weeks old. “We got a plea from the shelter about a kitten with hind limb paralysis that would be euthanized if not pulled by a rescue,” said Carol Gonzales, the Director of Baby Kitten Rescue in Los Angeles, CA. “We quickly realized he was not completely paralyzed in his back legs and had some use of them, even though he mostly dragged them to get around.”
Archie saw many vets and specialists. Radiographs confirmed a congenital malformation of the spine, which causes the weakness and lack of mobility in his hind legs. He started receiving acupuncture and physical therapy.
Archie’s Assisi Loop treatments
“The acupuncture vet recommended the Assisi Loop for him,” said Carol. They started Assisi Loop sessions three times a day for one week, twice a day for two weeks, then once a day after that. Carol noticed a difference after about a week of Assisi Loop session, combined with acupuncture and physical therapy. “He climbed to the top of his little cat tree for the first time, and we were so impressed! He is a super happy, playful and vibrant kitten and makes everyone he meets fall in love with him.”
When Archie was adopted in November, his adopter continued the Loop treatments. “He has just started to enjoy “couch time” on my lap,” Pat told me, “so that is when we do his Loop time.”
How the Assisi Loop Works
The Assisi Loop, created by Assisi Animal Health, is a non-pharmaceutical, non-invasive device provides targeted pulsed electromagnetic field therapy (tPEMF™). tPEMF, which was first studied in the 1970s and is FDA-cleared for use in humans, uses low-level pulses of electromagnetic energy to stimulate the body’s own healing mechanisms to help relieve pain and swelling. This therapy can benefits cats with pain associated with arthritis, pancreatitis, wounds, or post-surgical swelling as well as many inflammatory conditions. The Loop is well tolerated by most cats. In fact, many cats really enjoy receiving Loop treatments. Because the Loop stimulates the body’s own healing process, rather than introducing a new substance (like a medication), even a sensitive cat body can handle it easily.
Backed by scientific research
A two-year double blind study at the NC State College of Veterinary Medicine looked at using the Loop as part of pre-to-post-operative treatment to reduce pain and accelerate recovery in dogs undergoing spinal surgery. The results of this study undeniably show the Loop’s ability not only to reduce pain, but also to help the injured nerve tissue recover faster.
