Hi everyone,
Today we have a special Purrsday Poetry post as we thought it fitting to feature a book review of The Maine Coon’s Haiku and Other Poems for Cat Lovers. The review has been written by our friend hugr5 from hugauga.wordpress.com and of course includes a Haiku!.
The Maine Coon’s Haiku and Other Poems for Cat Lovers by Michael J. Rosen, illustrated by Lee White
If you like animals and appreciate good poetry this is the book for you. If you’re interested in Japanese culture and different styles of writing read this book. IF YOU LOVE CATS READ THIS BOOK.
Haiku is a three-line poem, usually five syllables [line 1] seven syllables [line 2] five syllables [line 3]. There are twenty haiku and twenty lovely illustrations in The Maine Coon’s Haiku…
Each haiku describes a moment in a cat’s life.
There are twenty different cat breeds in this book. (At the end of the book is a description and history of each breed. I like that – mental stimuli as well as a spiritual jumpstart.)
Here’s a sample of one of the haiku in The Maine Coon’s Haiku…
A Haiku is a verbal snapshot, a moment snatched from life and recreated in words. I think it is a wonderful way to be introduced to poetry – short and sweet, relatively painless. I recommend it to anyone who is interested in poetry, but is intimidated by the longer stuff.
The Maine Coon’s Haiku … is a good read for both adults and children. It is a soothing vacation. I recommend it.
The book is available at the usual ones (Barnes & Noble and Amazon) as well as other bookshops
