I spotted this cool kitty when reading a post on people doing their part to lift up spirits during the COVID-19 pandemic. Rover’s modeling pics on Instagram were an instant smile maker. Adventure cat, meowdel, Instagram star — with more than 80k followers and counting, Rover’s motto is “living my best nine lives.” Rover’s humans, Lina and Serge, adopted him when he was a kitty from a shelter — he’s turning 5 years old at the end of this year.
First, Rover appeared all over his humans’ social media accounts, to the point that they decided they would be doing everyone a favor if they made a separate account for him. Lina says, “Little did we know that so many people would tune in to his videos and daily shenanigans. The fashion shows were an accidental discovery when we filmed Rover wearing a mouse necklace and strutting across the kitchen floor to get some treats. Everyone loved his meowdel walk so much that we decided to give it another go with the Jon Snow cape. The Game of Thrones theme also generated an incredibly positive response, so now we keep coming up with different themes for his walk because his audience absolutely loves them. It’s been quite humbling knowing that someone somewhere is smiling because of Rover, and that’s why we keep running the page.”
Of course, meowdeling is not all this kitty does — he’s also an adventure cat. “Before we even adopted Rover, we knew we wanted a kitty that would join us on hikes along with the dog,” Lina says. “It just so happened that he, too, wanted to explore the outdoors, and he’s been joining us on hikes, camping trips and neighborhood walks for the last three years.”
Rover’s fur sibling adventure buddy is Athena the dog, a Miniature American Eskimo. “It is with Athena that he loves going on hikes,” she says.
Rover has another fur sibling, too. “Most recently, Minnie, a stray tabby kitty, joined our family,” says Lina, “and Rover has kindly been sharing his favorite cat tree and treats with her.” And Rover’s other loves? “Forget about elaborate cat toys,” Lina says. “Shoe boxes for shredding and a little white rope (from a local hardware store) that he loves to chase do the trick!”
Rover is a class act. He and his Instagram page support West Columbia Gorge Humane Society, the no-kill shelter that he was adopted from. “We stand firmly behind the #adoptdontshop principal, and our long-term goal is to help more homeless and stray animals,” Lina says.
