Gwen Cooper’s Curl Up with a Cat Tale series features humorous and heartwarming short stories about the ongoing adventures of Gwen’s feline family. With every story, I discover something new and endearing about her cats. In this installment, Gwen takes a look back at the time when her precious Vashti became seriously ill.
Gwen had me at “Stars Hollow” with this story. I’m a huge Gilmore Girls fan, and I couldn’t wait to see what the show had to do with Gwen’s cats.
This story is a bittersweet look back to when Vashti first became ill. Every cat parent will be able to relate to Gwen’s reaction to Vashti’s devastating diagnosis, and how she navigated the overwhelming amount of care required. If you’ve been there, you will recognize the universal pain that comes with caring for a very sick cat. I found myself tearing up more than once, remembering what it was like to care for Ruby during the last few months of her life.
As for Stars Hollow, you’ll just have to read the story to find out what the show has to do with Vashti’s illness. As with all of Gwen’s stories, this one will leave you feeling grateful for this exquisite and entertaining writer.
I love everything Gwen has ever written, and I’m already looking forward to next month’s installment.
And now pardon me while I start binge-watching Gilmore Girls on Netflix. I don’t know of a better show to help me forget these challenging times for a few hours at a time.
