The Dalai Lama’s cat is back with a fourth installment in David Michie’s popular series. Michie first introduced the fictional feline,  HHC (His Holiness’ Cat), dubbed “Little Snow Lion” by the Dalai Lama himself, in his 2012 novel The Dalai Lama’s Cat. HHC was rescued by the Dalai Lama when he saw the small kitten being thrown in the gutter. In The Dalai Lama’s Cat and the Four Paws of Spiritual Success, Michie explores the four key elements of Tibetan Buddhism from HHC’s purrpsective.

Through encounters with the residents of Dharamshala and the challenges they face, the Dalai Lama’s Cat explains all four key themes in a way that not only makes the concepts accessible even to those new to Buddhism, but also offers suggestions and real life examples of how the elements can be applied to every day life. Readers already familiar with Buddhist teachings will be delighted to find the tenets presented from a cat’s point of view.

Narrated with the same warmth, wit and wisdom as the other three books, this installment once again captured my heart and my mind. I found it especially helpful reading during these challenging times, as so much of the anxiety we’re all feeling is not just caused by current events, but by how our mind processes the events.

Sweet, poignant, and humorous, this book offers profound lessons conveyed in a light-hearted and subtle manner. Like the others, it reads like a novel, but the transformational message will stay with you long after you’ve turned the final page.
