This sweet pup named Hijinks may not be able to say the words “I love you” — but she’s learning new ways to show it.

Last week, Hijinks’ owners welcomed into the world a newborn baby girl named Mercury — and with that, suddenly everything changed. The normally rambunctious pup immediately embraced her role of big sister, calmly welcoming her tiny sibling with a warm heart.

Hijinks wasn’t used to having a baby around, but she seemed eager to learn the ropes.
“She started looking to us for cues on what to do,” Hijinks’ owner, Reddit user Rally8889, told The Dodo. “She’s careful and quiet around the baby.”
Evidently, when it comes to keeping Mercury happy, Hijinks believes that practice makes perfect.
The other day, while she rocked Mercury in a rocker seat, Rally8889 noticed Hijinks watching intently. Turns out, the dog was apparently taking notes.
After putting Mercury down to rest, the new mom returned to find Hijinks had placed one of her toys in the now-empty seat and was gently rocking it with her nose.

Rally8889 had never seen Hijinks do anything like it before — and it could only mean one thing: her daughter’s future will be that much brighter having such a thoughtful, loving pup in her life.
“Hijinks will be a good influence,” Rally8889 said. “She cares for Mercury.”
